With a career spanning more than 40 years, Lismore born ceramicist John Stewart is highly respected for an impressive catalogue of work. Self taught before studying at East Sydney Technical College (The National Art School) in the mid 1970’s John’s work has explored and researched an extensive range of the aesthetic, technical and forming genres of ceramic production.
Head Teacher of the Creative Industries Faculty for the past 20 years he was instrumental in establishing Lismore TAFE as one of the most dynamic and respected Art Schools in regional Australia.
Now retired from TAFE, John works full time in his studio. He is currently designing a range of slip cast ceramic wall and table vases that integrate the use of glass test tubes. To this end he has used his knowledge of 3D CAD software to design CNC lathed anodised aluminium components. The finished work is packaged in individually designed hand made boxes made from 100% recycled card.
